Raptor Feet Investigation

Today in class we collected information and said our ideas about the raptor feet.  We are trying to cover it with chicken wire.  At first when we were about to make the feet, we had too much chicken wire.  It looked to chubby.  We felt it should look like chicken  feetand chicken feet are extremely skinny (as you can see in the picture on the bottom).  That picture shows the exact texture of the feet and the detail.  They are very skinny and round.  We kept cutting the chicken wire so that it would be the right size.  The final picture on the bottom shows the feet.

Today we put most of the chicken wire up the right leg of the raptor.
We had first wrapped the chicken wire around the leg.  We saw that it looked very skinny.  Our class felt that animals legs are big and chubby.  So, we unwrapped the wires and measured another wire and wrapped that together.  It looked a liitle bit chubbier.  We felt that it looked more like an animal.

The rest of the class continued to make the tail.  They felt that is was very long.  So, they shortened it by bending it more.

Planning and Outlining

These are our plans and outlines. The top picture is the picture of "our finished raptor."  We decided that we will not add the extras in this picture (ex- basketball, music note, book, etc.).  This will be the finished product.  The picture on the bottom is the measurement plans.  These were the measurements that we took from our classmates body because that is the size that we are doing.

The boys are starting to put the chicken wire on the wood  body structure.  We are working our way up with the chicken wire.
First we measured how much chicken wire we need.  Then we wrapped them around the wood frame.  We cut  the pieces of chicken wire to make little wires to connect each piece.
